Historical Background
The Oels Jager were the elite light infantry of the Brunswick Ducal Field-Corps. Armed with rifles rather than smoothbore muskets, they could deliver accurate fire at much greater range than ordinary line troops. Their dark uniforms helped conceal them in woodland and broken terrain. Jager operated in loose open order, skirmishing to screen the main body, harass enemy formations, and exploit any gap in the opposing line.
