Braunschweig Artillerie

Fire support — softening enemy formations with cannon fire before the infantry assault.

Historical Background

The Braunschweig Artillerie operated the field guns that gave the regiment its long-range striking power. Napoleonic artillery crews were highly specialised, trained to load, aim, and fire their pieces rapidly under intense pressure.

Notable Actions

  • Provided fire support at the Battle of Quatre Bras
  • Exchanged counter-battery fire with French guns at Waterloo
  • Operated horse artillery in support of the Hussaren during the 1809 campaign
